Product Development / Design Eggenberger Automation can help you develop a product. We have developed
numerous products such as: imaging systems, laboratory instruments, surgical
instruments, as well as redesign or improve upon existing products to allow
for easier manufacture. Many of the projects we engage in are complex
mechanically and have provisions for optical and/or electrical components,
such as: lenses, mirrors, filters, circuit boards, control panels, sensors,
motors, and many other components. Our designs are very thorough from initial
concepts to design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA), our experience and
in-house manufacturing capabilities are a great asset to the design process.
Aside from our in-house machining and assembly capabilities we are also very
familiar with designing sheet-metal parts and molded parts. Below is an outline
of the design process. Conceptual Development: We can begin a new project by helping you
formulate concepts for a product in the early stages, such as refining
requirements and brainstorming conceptual sketches presenting a design. Engineering Design: Once a concept has been selected, the development
is ready to move forward. A 3D CAD model is created along with any necessary
calculations or analysis. Depending on the nature of the project the CAD
model and analysis will iterate through numerous permutations until optimal
performance of the design is achieved. The end result is a design that meets
requirements and is optimized to manufacture and assemble. A completed design
will include highly detailed part drawings, BOM, calculations, relevant documents,
and assembly drawings with instructions. Engineering Analysis: As part of the engineering process, detailed
calculations concerning: stress analysis, statics, dynamics, vibrations,
machine design, etc. are standard practice for designs, to further elaborate.
We use several math software tools and can run an FEA analysis on a CAD
model. Calculations are presented in a formal report, with sufficient
explanation to clearly convey: results, limitations to a design, and general
theory. Prototype Stage: Once the product development passes the design stage we can build the
first unit for validation. With our in-house capabilities, we can build the
first unit for validation of design. Typically, after building and testing
the first unit there are some design changes and revisions to the prototype
until the desired requirements are met. |

Manufacturing Eggenberger
Automation manufactures products and has in-house machining capabilities. Currently,
we can produce hundreds to thousands of turned parts per month (depending on
the specifics of the part) with our CNC turning machines. Refer to Facilities for
more information. We also routinely assemble finished products for our
customers. Currently the products we assemble are laboratory instruments with
electro-mechanical and optical components. Most of what we produce began as a
Product Development project and progressed to manufacturing. All of the
machined parts are produce in-house, while sheet metal parts and other stock
items are purchased from our numerous vendors. Our customers receive tested
instruments ready to ship to their customers. To further support
manufacturing we usually participate in design changes and update models and
drawings per your ECO/ECN process as the product evolves. |
